Moss Series

2019

The Moss series is a continuation in the evolution of my canvas-based sculpture practice, from its start in furniture to where it is now in 2019.

My furniture design, mainly chairs, was created through making studies in comfort and poise, and giving them expression by using exotic fabrics to create colorful sculptural forms. “Moss” is a series that filters the thinking found in my furniture but through my new reality of working only in unbleached cotton canvas and its natural color (a soft white).

The sways of Whitechurch mirror my Douglas ottoman, and the cascades of skirted ottoman Beatrice found their way into Ballycastle—“Moss” swings from restraint to flamboyance, from containment to explosion, and sometimes emotional, mostly controlled. A study in contrasts, a visual marker of old and new selves.
