brae Series

2021

Brae emerged as a series from exploring elasticity in a material that lacks dimension on its own. The name takes after the Irish word for low-rounded hill. Through artistic and technical intervention, the four works in this series take on soft and rounded volumes.

Brae was an intentional and focused exploration of giving life to my medium, heavy canvas. The weight of my material has no stretch or inherent dimension, and only through manipulation does the canvas begin to take form with volume.

The crinkles of Ballygally. The caverns of Ballyvoy. The ripples of Ballybofey and dimples of Ballyneagh. “Brae” is a project of creating elasticity in the canvas.
